In the period from May 1, 2026, to December 31, 2029, at the Department of Molecular Physics, Faculty of Chemistry, Lodz University of Technology, we are carrying out a project entitled: "Chiral Nanocomposites for Efficient and Tunable Printed Optoelectronic Devices.” (FENG.02.02-IP.05-0078/25) founded by the European Union under the First Team FENG competition of the Foundation for Polish Science.
The project develops a new generation of chiral composite nanomaterials based on organic semiconductors, aligned with the objectives of the European Green Deal. The project focuses on bioinspired donor-acceptor materials produced using low-energy and environmentally friendly inkjet printing methods. These materials will exhibit unique optical properties, such as the emission of circularly polarized light in the near-infrared range. Therefore, they could find applications in, among others, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) for biomedical applications and for more efficient optical communication.
A key aspect of the project will be understanding the nature of and achieving control over intermolecular interactions in composite materials, which will enable emission enhancement and symmetry breaking of circularly polarized light (CPL). The project's technological challenge will be the effective implementation of inkjet printing methods for the production of new materials in the form of thin films and their subsequent use in OLED devices.
The project consists of six stages: (1) the synthesis of new donor-acceptor (D-A) materials, (2) analysis of their optical properties and microstructure, (3) development of D-A inks, (4) fabrication of printed D-A nanocomposites for further applications, (5) fabrication of OLED devices, and (6) large-format printing. Additionally, activities connected with the dissemination of project’s results and a series of training activities are planned. The project not only leads to the development of new knowledge on organic composites and printed electronics but also strengthens the competencies of young researchers through training and internships with project partners (foreign research partners and a domestic economic partner).
